Cajun Salmon Burger Recipe: A Bold and Flavorful Weeknight Favorite

Salmon is one of those ingredients I always come back to. It is versatile, filling, and easy to dress up with different flavors. These Cajun Salmon Burgers are one of my favorite ways to enjoy salmon when I want something a little different from a traditional fillet.

This recipe is hearty, flavorful, and surprisingly simple to prepare. The cream fraiche keeps the burgers tender while the Cajun seasoning adds just the right amount of spice.

🌢️ What Is Cajun Seasoning

Cajun seasoning comes from Louisiana and is rooted in French Acadian cooking. It is known for its bold and comforting flavor rather than extreme heat.

Most Cajun spice blends include paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, black pepper, cayenne, and oregano or thyme. The blend adds warmth and depth without overpowering the main ingredient, making it a perfect match for salmon.

Fun Facts About Cajun Spice

  • Cajun seasoning was traditionally used as a practical way to add flavor to simple foods using pantry spices.

  • Paprika gives Cajun seasoning its signature color and mild smokiness.

  • Cajun food focuses on hearty, comforting meals meant to feed families and gatherings.

🐟 Ingredients for Cajun Salmon Burger Recipe

  • I pound salmon
  • 1 teaspoon Cajun seasoning
  • 1 half tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 4 tablespoons cream fraiche
  • 1 half cup panko breadcrumbs
  • 4 brioche buns

πŸ‘©‍🍳Directions

  1. Preheat the oven to 425 degrees. Prepare a baking sheet with foil and cooking spray.

  2. Pat the salmon dry and season the flesh side with a pinch of pepper. Place the salmon skin side down on the prepared baking sheet.

  3. Roast in the hot oven until the salmon reaches an internal temperature of 145 degrees, about 13 to 15 minutes. Carefully remove from the oven and let cool for 5 minutes.

  4. Once the salmon is cool enough to handle, peel the skin away from the flesh and discard it. Place the salmon in a mixing bowl and gently shred it into small pieces using a fork or your hands.

  5. Add the panko breadcrumbs, Dijon mustard, cream fraiche, Cajun seasoning, and a pinch of salt. Stir until the mixture becomes slightly sticky. Form into four evenly sized patties.

  6. Place the patties in the freezer for 10 to 15 minutes until firm.

  7. Remove the patties from the freezer. Heat a large non stick pan over medium heat. Toast the brioche buns and set aside.

  8. Add olive oil to the pan and cook the patties until heated through and golden brown, about 3 to 5 minutes per side.

Tip: If you can't find cream fraiche in the store you can use sour cream or full-fat Greek yogurt.
